How to Cook Using Hickory Wood Chunks Only

  • For the best flavour, avoid lighter fluid and use a solid fire starter.
  • Stack dry hickory chunks in a pyramid over the fire starter, leaving one edge exposed.
  • Light the fire starter and allow the chunks to burn for approximately 15 to 20 minutes with the lid and vents fully open.
  • For a milder smoke flavour, allow the wood to burn down for a longer period before cooking.
  • Close the vents and lid, then wait about one minute for flames to settle.
  • Spread the chunks evenly, place food on the grill and cook with the lid closed to maximise smoke flavour and minimise flare-ups.

How to Use with Charcoal

  • Use lump charcoal and a solid fire starter to keep flavours clean and natural.
  • Light the charcoal using your preferred method.
  • Add 3 to 5 dry hickory chunks to a standard barbecue several minutes before cooking.
  • Add additional chunks when using larger smokers.
  • Continue adding chunks every 20 to 30 minutes during cooking to maintain a rich, smoky flavour throughout the barbecue session.

Whether you're smoking tender pork shoulder, grilling juicy steaks or preparing flavour-packed chicken, Western BBQ Smoking Wood Chunks Hickory deliver the rich, traditional barbecue taste that outdoor cooking enthusiasts love.
