BADMOTIVATOR Legacy American Oak 19L Barrel Including Stand

Craft exceptional aged spirits at home with the BADMOTIVATOR Legacy American Oak 19L Barrel Including Stand. Handcrafted from premium quartersawn American White Oak and designed for larger batch ageing, this impressive 19-litre barrel delivers the perfect combination of traditional barrel craftsmanship, long-term durability and outstanding flavour enhancement.

Aged for 48 months in Missouri before construction and handcrafted in Eugene, Oregon, each barrel is designed to emulate the ageing surface characteristics of a traditional 53-gallon barrel. The result is a premium ageing vessel capable of developing rich flavours and complex character in whisky, bourbon, rum, brandy, tequila and many other spirits.

Featuring a generous 19L (5-gallon) capacity, this barrel is perfectly suited for enthusiasts who want to age larger batches, matching common batch sizes for both beer and wine production. The quartersawn American White Oak construction is renowned for its strength and longevity, offering the potential to mature spirits for many years with proper care.

Each barrel includes a handcrafted wooden stand, creating an attractive display while providing stable support during ageing and dispensing. Every barrel is individually serialised, making each piece a unique addition to any home bar, cellar or spirits collection.

The barrel is fitted with a stainless steel can and spigot system to help maintain a clean, inert environment that preserves the natural flavours of your spirits. A beeswax-finished White Oak bung ensures a secure seal throughout the ageing process.

Please Note: Every barrel is supplied with a unique serial number. Specific serial numbers cannot be selected or requested.

What Do The Toast & Char Numbers Mean?

In the world of cooperage, terminology can vary slightly between barrel makers. The toast and char levels used in BADMOTIVATOR barrels are designed to help create different flavour profiles, allowing you to tailor the ageing process to suit your preferred spirit.

Toast is the process of heating the barrel staves over a griddle at approximately 400°F (204°C). The duration of the heating process determines the toast level and influences the flavour compounds released from the oak.

  • Light Toast – 20 minutes at approximately 400°F (204°C).
  • Medium Toast – 30 minutes at approximately 400°F (204°C).
  • Medium-Plus Toast – 40 minutes at approximately 400°F (204°C).
  • Heavy Toast – 50 minutes at approximately 400°F (204°C).

Char is a more intensive heat treatment where the inside of the barrel head is exposed to an open flame. The amount of time the oak is exposed to the flame determines the char level.

  • Char 1 – 10 seconds, producing a light char.
  • Char 2 – 20 seconds, producing a medium char.
  • Char 3 – 30 seconds, producing a medium-heavy char.
  • Char 4 – 40 seconds, producing a heavy char.

After charring, the barrel is rapidly quenched with water to extinguish the flames and lock the charred layer into the oak. This process contributes to the development of complex flavours during ageing.

Recommended Spirit Pairings:

  • Light Toast, Char 1 – Ideal for gin, white rum and lightly aged tequila, adding subtle complexity without overpowering the spirit.
  • Medium Toast, Char 2 – Perfect for bourbon, rye whiskey and apple brandy, offering balanced caramel, vanilla and oak characteristics.
  • Medium-Plus Toast, Char 3 – Well suited to Scotch whisky, aged rum and mezcal, providing additional depth and complexity.
  • Heavy Toast, Char 4 – Excellent for dark rum, bold bourbons and Armagnac, contributing richer notes of chocolate, coffee, smoke and toasted oak.

Please note that ageing results will vary depending on the spirit used, ageing duration, storage conditions and environmental factors. Experimentation is encouraged to achieve your ideal flavour profile.

Combining premium American White Oak, authentic cooperage craftsmanship, large-batch ageing capability and a handcrafted display stand, the BADMOTIVATOR Legacy American Oak 19L Barrel Including Stand is the perfect choice for enthusiasts seeking authentic barrel ageing, enhanced flavour development and a striking centrepiece for any spirits collection.
