Reclaimed Red Bricks

Reclaimed Red Bricks

So, you have a small space in your garden, and you are unsure what to do? At Wallington's WRG we have some great suggestions to help make your garden makeovers more sustainable. Not only will this help the environment, but you will also have a great-looking backyard. A great solution is to use reclaimed products from local railways and infrastructure. Our landscaping team have come up with 5 creative and unique DIY ideas you can do on the weekend using reclaimed red bricks.

1. Brick Books

Creating a brick book library is a great idea for anyone who loves a good DIY project and is an avid reader. You can set up a few bricks in a row as spines of your favourite book. Get some house paint sample pots and panting the bricks as your favourite novels and place them around your garden to inspire and delight anyone who hangs out in space. It can also be a great project to do with children to inspire them into reading and fuel their imagination as they build a library of books for garden fairies.

2. Garden Edging

It is understood that garden beds can be a very messy but amazing experience. From dirt and mulch always flying around to wild animals digging things up. A great solution to this problem is to build a barrier with red bricks around the garden bed. Not only will this form a barrier to keep the dirt inside the garden bed, but it could also prevent any damage to seedlings as the bricks can prevent the dirt from washing away. The best part is that you can even paint the bricks to suit your preferred colour scheme in the garden.

3. Fire Pit

Having a backyard fire pit can be amazing for those Saturday nights with guests. But fire safety is a huge thing to consider before buying a fire pit. It is important to clear a large area around the base of your pit, in the off chance, some embers spark out of the fit and land on the ground. It is a fantastic idea to build a larger circle around the area and use reclaimed red bricks as the edge and cover the area with sand or rocks. Just be sure to clear debris from the area before lighting a fire.

4. Candle Holders

This one might seem out of the box, but broken bricks can make for very solid and rustic candle holders. As most bricks already have two or more holes, they are perfect for long candles. If you want to get even more creative, you can cement multiple bricks together and great candle holding sculptures. They would make for a great centrepiece for a rustic farm wedding event.

5. Build a Cubby house.

Cubby houses and outdoor house areas are a wonderful way to involve your children in more outdoor activities. Not only does it provide them with a space of their very own, but it also can teach them much-needed life skills, such as problem-solving and design. Using reclaimed brick is not only more affordable than wood but it is also more sustainable and safer in the long term. It is also easier to clean off the mudpies and sand from the walls.

Wallington's WRG has reclaimed red brick now in stock and delivering all across Geelong and the Bellarine.
