Wallington's Sustainability Initiative Geelong Compost

Wallington's WRG is very proud to be a part of making Geelong a greener and more sustainable place with the help of the Greater City of Geelong's new compost facility. Rather than sending the town green waste to a landfill, the $3 million dollar facility was built in order to turn 35,000 tonnes a year of the town's green organic matter into nutrient-rich compost, lovingly named Geelong Compost. This sustainable and nutrient-filled product is available in both 8mm and 20mm sizes.

The compost made from this facility will be used on all future Geelong council projects such as parks, sporting ovals and by locals just like you.

The new Geelong plant will be able to provide long-term advantages such as processing the city's green organics, with the potential to process additional organic materials like food in the future. Green waste collected each week is sent to the facility to process, it's then shredded and turned into large row piles. This is a process called open-windrow technology. The machine called a compost turner helps pasteurise and mature the windrow piles turning green waste into a humus-rich compost with stabilised nutrients. The facility also hosts its own water recycling facility to further reduce water wastage.

Wallington's WRG is honoured to have this amazing product in stock and delivering all across Geelong and the Bellarine. Contact our Landscaping yard on (03) 5250 2056 or check out our website where you can order right now and schedule a delivery date and time that suits you!
