BEGINNERS GUIDE TO HOT SAUCES AND THE SCOVILLE SCALE

Some brands do like to keep their Scoville level a secret, so some may just have a scale between 1 and 5. 

LEVEL 1 

This is the beginner level and requires little previous hot sauce tasting skills. These sauces are the typical run-of-the-millhot sauce that everyone would have on their kitchen table during dinner. Sriracha is a staple ingredient in a lot of Chinese and Thailand dishes.

LEVEL 2

The next stage is where you may start to feel a little something. These sauces have a wonderful taste and aroma overall, but they are rather tame in terms of spice intensity compared to others on the list.

LEVEL 3

Many hot sauce lovers recognize the whoa factor of a spicy hot sauce. It's not quite a mind-blowing spice but if you enjoy hot sauces, you will be familiar with the spice's effect on your taste buds.

LEVEL 4

The number of levels has risen to four, and this one is getting close to the double digits in the Scoville scale. These sauces are not your average hot sauces, they'll pack a wallop. These hot sauces are best tasted on chicken wings.

LEVEL 5

The famous Habanero chillis come out to play at Level 5. These are one of the world's most powerful chilli peppers, according to reports. They are perfect for a true flavour kick during an AFL game or family BBQ.
